Good beginners tutorial for Ajaxifying a PHP form?

I am new at this just having used static forms in the past but now I have a need to add Ajax to a form.

I have Googled and am getting more confused. (Easily done)

Can anyone recommend a good beginners tutorial for Javascript and Ajax as i know next to nothing about either.
